A native of North America, it is now found throughout the world. Unbranched except for flowering stems near the top. Central stem is ridged and covered with long white hairs with whorled narrow lanceolate leaves 3 - 4 in. long with a few teeth on the tips. Blooms are clustered with greenish-white flower heads.
