A purple wildflower that I have seen all over North Texas, instead of a "flower" it is like little balls. Looks kind of like grapes.

Identified as: Grape Hyacinth

It is a little hard to tell with this picture, but your description of the blooms being like little balls makes me think this is the Grape Hyacinth. You can search and view other pics of them online to compare to yours to make a good confirmation.
