Natural Abstract Photography

I am a self-taught award-winning wildflower photographer, having developed my artistic style on the isolated prairies of West Texas as an escape from the pressures of graduate school approximately five years ago. I hold a Bachelors in Art History, having focused my studies on Edgar Degas and the French Impressionists which can be reflected in many of my wildflower portraits, and a Masters in Exhibit Design. I currently curate the only open juried photography exhibition on the Southern Plains, PhotoPlains! Annual West Texas Photographic Society of Lubbock Open Juried Photography Exhibit and am author of "Fair Lady of the Plains", a combination of storytelling and photography. With Natural/Abstracts, I portray the often overlooked beauty found in an otherwise harsh, uninviting landscape. My challenge is to discover the untapped charm in the abandoned homestead, the prairie bloom, the desolate graveyard, and the dying wildflower. I enjoy searching the High Lonesome for the innate beauty of humble scenes hiding in plain sight. My main equipment for wildflower photography is a Canon Rebel T2i and Canon 60-mm macro lens. This combination works well for me because the camera body is light weight and the lens has a short barrel, making it possible to crawl around on the ground to get as close as needed to capture the uniqueness of each individual wildflower without the use of a tripod.
